Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi (UNPAB) has a rich history that reflects its commitment to education and societal development in Indonesia. Founded initially as Akademi Metafisika, the university has evolved significantly since its inception, adapting to the changing educational landscape while maintaining its core values and mission.
UNPAB was originally established under the name Akademi Metafisika on November 27, 1956. The academy was founded by Prof. Dr. H. Kadirun Yahya, a military veteran and a scholar renowned for his expertise in physics and chemistry. Prof. Yahya was also proficient in several languages, including English, German, and Dutch, and had a deep understanding of spiritual philosophy. His multifaceted background provided a strong foundation for the academy, which aimed to blend scientific knowledge with philosophical and spiritual insights.
Transition to Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi
In 1961, Akademi Metafisika underwent a significant transformation, becoming Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi. This change marked a new chapter in the institution’s history, with December 19, 1961, being officially recognized as the founding date of the university. This transition allowed the institution to expand its academic offerings and establish a more comprehensive educational framework.
By 2013, UNPAB had begun to integrate e-learning into its curriculum. This move towards online education was a forward-thinking response to the growing importance of digital technologies in the educational sector. The e-learning system allowed UNPAB to provide flexible learning opportunities for students, catering to a wider audience and enhancing the accessibility of education.
Faculty Restructuring: A Streamlined Approach
In 2017, UNPAB restructured its academic faculties, consolidating seven faculties into four main faculties. These are the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Humanities, the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Graduate Program. This reorganization aimed to streamline the university’s operations, improve interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhance the quality of education offered.
In 2020, UNPAB launched a community-based program known as “Membangun Desa, Membangun Indonesia” (Building Villages, Building Indonesia). This initiative emphasizes the university’s commitment to community service and development. By focusing on rural areas, the program aims to foster sustainable development, improve living standards, and empower local communities through education and technology.
